| Washer-toss has been around for
years and played in many different ways. This game originated
back in 1988 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The purpose of
Washer-Toss was to make room in an annual horseshoe tournament.
There were not enough horseshoe pits to accommodate the players.
The first game was made out of ¼" plywood. Two
boxes were made 12"x 12"x 12" with a empty
tomato juice can placed in the middle. The boxes were then
¾ filled with sand. You then tossed 1 ¼"
washers in turn.
In 1995 the game changed. Thicker plywood was used and a
plastic cylinder replaced the tomato juice can. The dimensions
of the boxes have changed to 15"x15"x 6" with
the cylinder bolted to the bottom. The washers you toss changed
to 3" and were painted two different colours per set.
This game was made as a hobby to sell to friends and family.
The game was getting popular and orders were backing up. The
supply could not keep up with the demand.
So this brings us to where we are today, the year is 2003.
The game has been made into an aluminum tool and then vacuum
molded to a plastic game. The washers have stayed the same
size, but the finishing has changed to powder coating for
durability.
